NEW STRAITS TIMES, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 1999 Computimes Page 39 More features in new Solomon IV By Subashini Selvaratnam Solomon Software Malaysia has introduced the latest of its financial and business management systems software, Solomon IV, to the local market. The product line, written using the 32-bit Microsoft Visual Basic development system, is optimized exclusively for the Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 database, Windows NT Server operating system (OS) and Back Office family. According to Solomon Software South East Asia's General Manager, Laurent Dedenis, Solomon IV includes Financial Series, Distribution Series, Project Series, Service Series, Manufacturing Series, and electronic business applications. The Financial Series modules are the core accounting applications in the Solomon IV suite. One of the features found in the series is the multi-company module that lets users keep track separately of multiple companies in an organization. Solomon IV automatically creates the due-from/due-to entries to put inter-company transactions in balance. The currency manager module manages foreign currency transactions, including complex triangulation in order to maximize profits from international business. In the Distribution Series, there is a feature called order management that manages the entire sales order process, from quotation through invoicing. The company said that project sales orders can also be tracked with inventory costs and sales order revenue flowing to the project through Project Controller. The Project Series is designed for companies which need to track capital projects, research and development efforts, and events where costs must be managed. The Service Series includes a suite of modules designed for service companies to automate service call processing such as dispatching service technicians, managing service contracts, tracking equipment maintenance, calculating commissions and billing rental equipment. Manufacturing Series tracks work orders, bills of materials, and material requirements planning. In the E-business Series, users will find the Web manager features that allows administrators to grant access rights to reports and Web applications to specific users. Web applications such as data entry or inquiries are also done through Web manager. Solomon IV comes in two editions - Select and Premier. The Select Edition is targeted at companies with 20 to 100 employees with revenues between RM5 million and RM80 million and less complex financial, project, service, distribution, manufacturing or electronic commerce (e-commerce) needs. The Select Edition consists of a selected group of application modules and includes the mainstream functionality needed by most typical small installations. Solomon IV Premier Edition is targeted at companies or locations within larger organizations with 100 and 1,000 employees and revenues between RM35 million to RM1 billion and with more complex financial, project, service, distribution, manufacturing or e-commerce needs. The Premier Edition consists of the entire suite of application modules, an additional suite of applications with advanced feature sets and functionality for more complex customer requirements. Dedenis said that the company plans to market this product by conducting more seminars, road shows and via advertising. The price range for Solomon IV is from RM13,000 for small businesses to over RM750,000 for mid-sized businesses depending on the number of users and the number of modules purchased. |
